‘Real’ Work…? is a play on the assumptions of how we practice architecture – as an individual master designer working outside of contextual, cultural and political realms. Instead, practitioners across the expanded field of architecture will share the way they work as a collaborative endeavour, whether it is with colleagues, stakeholders or industry partners. This stream looks to Australian Architects, Landscape Architects and their affiliated fields in governance, design and art, in order to tease out the stories of everyday work, how they got to where they are and what they do to stay ahead. Rather than focus on projects, we look to ‘ways of working’ in order to understand the often-side-lined skills of communication and listening, facilitation and collaboration. We will explore the culture of the architectural workplace, with both its unique opportunities and its shared inequities. And we will discuss the agency and relevance of our work in a rapidly transforming world.
