Semester 2, 2020
Radical Work
As part of the 2020 Thematic Semester, Radical Work, all SABE students are invited to join a curated fortnightly lecture series exploring critical histories of Australian architecture. Invited scholars will address overlooked aspects of Australia’s architectural history with a special emphasis on this country’s colonial past.
How did architecture participate in the colonial process in Australia? What did this architecture look like? What were its strategic objectives? Who did it serve? What was involved in its production? What were its legacies? Why do we know so little about these histories as architects? What remains to be told? How might its telling reframe our present moment?
Join us as we explore these questions, seeking critical insights into the role that historiography can play in revisiting and reshaping understandings our collective past, and the place of architecture within it.
