Chris Tucker – Larapinta Bough Shelters
This face to face and online course is an opportunity to design and document new bough shelters within the larapinta town camp of alice springs.
The course also extends the five year collaboration the university of newcastle and tangentyere council have in working with the people who live in the town camps of alice springs. Over this time, students have worked on architectural projects that have helped improve the basic public infrastructure that exists within the town camps.
The bough shelters are required at this time because of the physical distancing requirements of covid-19. Being involved in the project helps the community in addressing some of the issues associated with physical distancing .
Becoming aware of the different cultural relationships first nation people have with public space is part of the discussions in this course.
